CONSPIRACY & DRUG TRAFFICKING
A drug charge is highly regulated and subject to a variety of factors including location of arrest, illegal search and seizures, weights and measures and even forensic evidence. Therefore choosing an attorney that has experience with handling drug crimes is imperative.
Crimes involving drugs often include extremely tough guidelines when it comes to penalties and sentencing. Not only can the sentencing affect you but it can also destroy the lives of your loved ones. Without adequate legal counsel, long mandatory prison sentences await those convicted of crimes like possession, selling or trafficking controlled substances. Unfortunately, these types of federal drug charges generally carry harsher punishments and longer sentences.
At the Law Offices of Michael Huff, we are committed to providing our clients with the best legal counsel available. We’ll provide competent legal defense and fair, forthright due process no matter what you’ve been accused of. If you’re interested in learning more about how we can help, contact us today.
FIREARM VIOLATIONS
Federal firearms violations are often investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Due to the nature of these crimes, the U.S. Attorney’s Office is extremely vigilant about pursuing heavy penalties. Therefore it is of utmost importance to obtain representation from an attorney with the right kind of experience. Because investigators and prosecutors are often eager to resolve these types of crimes, it is also important to retain an attorney who will stand up for your rights and ensure due process.
All offenses are serious, but those that are charged as federal crimes are even more so. With federal sentencing guidelines, a defendant can face extremely harsh penalties that can include mandatory minimum sentences.
Many types of gun charges fall into this category of offenses:
- Illegal possession of a firearm
- Illegal sale of a firearm
- Illegal trafficking of a firearm
- Illegal altering, destroying or removal of a serial number
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- Possession of an unregistered firearm
- Straw purchase of a firearm
At the Law Offices of Michael Huff, we are committed to providing the best legal counsel available. We’ll make sure you have a competent, professional legal defense as well as ensuring you receive fair, forthright due process under the law. HOBBS ACT ROBBERY
The Hobbs Act criminalizes both robbery and extortion, where:
- Robbery means the unlawful taking or obtaining of personal property from the person or in the presence of another, against his will
- Extortion means the obtaining of property from another, with his consent, induced by wrongful use of actual or threatened force, violence, or fear, or under color of official right.
The Hobbs Act allows the Federal Government to have jurisdiction over Robbery’s that effect interstate commerce, which is quite often when money is involved. Often times the case will begin in State Court but will later be picked up by the Federal Government and be transferred to Federal Court in your jurisdiction.
While originally used to combat racketeering in labor-management disputes, the Hobbs Act is often used in connection with cases of public corruption.
If you are facing charges that could be persecuted using the Hobbs Act, it is very important that you receive representation by an experienced federal legal defense attorney.
At the Law Offices of Michael Huff, we are committed to providing the best legal counsel available. We’ll make sure you have a competent, professional legal defense as well as ensuring you receive fair, forthright due process under the law. DRUG POSSESSION & DRUG DISTRIBUTION
Crimes involving drugs have extremely tough guidelines when it comes to penalties and sentencing. Not only can the sentencing affect you, but it can also destroy the lives of your loved ones. Often without adequate legal counseling, long mandatory prison sentences await for those convicted of crimes like possession, selling or trafficking controlled substances.
State arrests for simple possession tend to be charged as misdemeanors and usually involve probation, a short term in a local jail or a fine. However, this can depend on the criminal history and age of the person being charged. In addition, many drug arrests include additional charges that must be considered and defended.
At the Law Offices of Michael Huff, we are committed to providing our clients with the best legal counsel available. We believe each individual has the right to competent legal defense and fair, forthright due process no matter what the charges. SEX CRIMES
In choosing a legal defense counsel, you can count on our firm’s dedication through every step of your case from initial contact with investigators through to the courtroom and beyond. Thanks to extensive experience in dealing with a variety of state charges, our legal defense team understands the state court system is ready to provide the legal counsel you deserve.
A number of different offenses fall into the sex crimes category, but they generally involve illegal or coerced sexual conduct against another individual. Every state has laws prohibiting acts of rape and sexual assault. In addition, each state has its own statue of limitations that defines the time frame during which a victim may file a lawsuit.
An added layer of complexity arising from these types of charges is that individuals convicted of sex crimes, regardless of severity, can be considered “sex offenders” and may face having their names added to state and federal sex offender registries. Because these types of accusations and convictions can follow you for years to come, a strong defense is imperative.
Examples of state sex crimes we handle include:
- Rape
- Statutory Sexual Assault
- Involuntary Deviant Sexual Intercourse
Sex crimes are taken very seriously in state courts and carry tough penalties with many including mandatory minimum sentences. This makes securing an attorney who understands the individual state or commonwealth sentencing guidelines critical to building a strong defense.

Penalties for property and theft offenses often depend on the value of the property allegedly destroyed or stolen. Sometimes penalties can be based on circumstances that might exist during the alleged theft or property crime. In some cases, these types of convictions could mean up to decades of jail time. Additionally, a theft or property crime on your record could affect your ability to find gainful employment in the future. This makes it important to contest your charges and present a strong defense.

HOMICIDE DEFENSE
In most cases, murder is a state crime that is handled in state court and under state laws. Often, state law defines sentencing guidelines for charges including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, manslaughter and others. However, in many states the jury can make their own sentencing recommendation. The judge can then choose to accept the jury’s recommendation or levy an altogether different sentence.
From state to state maximum penalties can differ greatly. Capital punishment, or the death penalty, was abolished by New Jersey in 2007 with New York following suit in 2009. The maximum penalty for first-degree murder in these states is life without the possibility of parole. In Pennsylvania, however, the death penalty is still an option in sentencing under certain circumstances.
If you face a state murder charge in PA, NJ or NY, you will need an experienced criminal defense lawyer who not only has represented clients in these various state courts but who also has experience with murder cases. In addition to our legal defense team, we also have access to independent experts in forensics, psychology and other disciplines. These experts can be called in to provide an independent review of the state’s evidence and can effectively challenge discrepancies or oversights within the prosecution’s case.
State murder charges could include:
- First-degree Murder
- Second-degree Murder
- Third-degree Murder
- Voluntary Manslaughter
- Involuntary Manslaughter
